Some news about my life:
Smirk & Dagger -games have released a new card-game expansion set and my piece "Din" looks pretty awesome in the cover of the box.
See the game here: http://www.smirkanddagger.com/cutthroatTombs.htm
Many other things are happening and bigger projects are being developed, of which is too early to say for sure at the moment.
Please check out also the website of my book "Ordera": http://www.kirsisalonen.com/ordera/index.htm
The site is still under construction and more info will be available of the story shortly. The book's publishing process is now being discussed in my country and I hope it will be a reality in these upcoming months.
with peace,
Kirsi
January 15, 2009.09:46 Disappointed to CG Society
Listen to this story. Still cannot believe it's true, since I've always had tonns of respect towards this site.
"Since Jan. 12th, the “IT'S ART” domain name has been banned from the CG Society forum.
This could be a common story, but not really. CG Society is a private company and has the right to control any posts and content on its website. That's more than acceptable and I have no problems regarding this. Deleting a post or banning a user is something that every forum does, and is part of the daily job for any administration. But when it comes to censor a domain name it's another story.
Since Jan 12th, anyone typing the word “itsartmag” in a post will see a magic trick. The word is replaced by ********** This is a strong decision from “CG Society” and it means that they no more want anyone to post anything related to “IT'S ART”.
What's the impact of such decision? Let's say you're one of the studios or artists that have been interviewed by “IT'S ART”, you no longer can use an “IT'S ART” url in your signature or post on “CG Society”. You've made a picture in an “IT'S ART Challenge”, what about the making of? Forget about letting people know about that! A student is speaking about his short movie? Don't tell the “CG Society” people you've made an article about the creative process of your production there.
Saying this, it's easy to understand that's it's not a usual ban story but a way to control the CG information and discourage people from using other websites to feature content.
I've tried to understand why the url is banned, and some moderators have encouraged me to buy advertising packages as an answer, some others say it's not censorship just a normal procedure.
As I said, “CG society” has total right to ban users, delete threads and control their content. But when it comes to ban a word rather than ban a user or their threads, it's not just a common ban process.
"
Is this healthy competition or just bullying all those who deserve a fair play in this industry?
Just asking.
January 03, 2009.22:07 website undergoing changes so it's down for a short while
Hi people of CGtalk and Happy New Year!
Thanks for the support from last year and all the great things this site has produced during the years
Just wanted to mainly let you know in this short note that my personal website is going through a provider change so I can have muuuuch more space to expand it and include new areas and more massive tutorials, stories and "books" etc.
As many of you might know that I'm working on my novelseries "Ordera", which still needs its own website, so this will definately happen along with the website change.
For those who like to read more up-to-date info about my life and arts, IT'S ART -magazine just came out with their specially brilliant issue 3/2008 and I'm proud to be there with a big interview and many included artworks.
- Some of which are not even here in my CGsociety's portfolio.
At last you have a real chance to buy prints of my works!
A new and wonderful online show called KBOOMM just opened their site. Feel free to take a look what they have in stores at the moment. From time to time I'll be adding more artworks into their collection.
I've been away from CGsociety for far too long, it's even shameful. But Now at least I came to tell a bit about the reasons why this has happened.
Most of all, been very busy with work that has left me no room for lounging around, unless I really grab myself a vacation for a day or so. All summer was spent either with preliminary concept art for movie called "Cockfighter", comics of BHE, coverarts, making workshops or then I had to be writing my novel forward or answering to various interviews. So.. that's a lot to do and manage, even when life's wonderful and enormously energy consuming at the same time.
Exotique 4 didn't work out.. and I'm not one bit surprised, since the idea was all about a typical Character Design. And I only submitted ONE work for it (you'll soon hee it here, at my website it's called "Prodigal Son", now I only ask myself why I did such a decision.. hehe. Maybe I was in a moment of insanity, because I totally forgot about all the other works I made since the E's 3rd edition.
Even though that didn't happen, got many of my works included to a book telling of dragons by a London-based Flame Tree Publisher.
Also new ImagineFX is out and it has my Speedy tutorial article, so chack it out and let me know that you like it! Other opinions are not so great, LOL.
Anyway.. wanted to let you guys know that I'm not forgotten about this great place and gonna be posting a lot new stuff, business and practise in here soon.
In the meantime there's a very cool place that now enlisted me as their designer, called Skinnis.com.
It's brand new store opens up 1st of October, so in case you wanna pop in and take a visit, my profile looks like this: http://www.skinnis.com/kirsisalonen/
