As a fan of Zelda's world, here's the third and last goddess of Hyrule, Farore. She's the goddess of Courage.
Now all of them are done, so happy about it!
I don't know if I'm going to make this a detailed version. It's just a matter of free time.

As a contrast to the other two, this was done in 3 fast hours while was writing also emails =D.
Quickly sketched out in Painter and coloured in PS.

One more thing about the character.. as the master of Courage, she knows how to handle the most vicious creatures there are and accept them.
And even when she gets cuts, it's just natural and doesn't hold grudge about them..

At last I managed to finish my second personal painting this year. It's obvious to say this is a big scene.. I hope all who watch it can feel themselves inspired and this invokes plenty of thought, good or bad, disgust or pleasure.
--
For a personal view, this is a very strong piece for me. I'm not a religious person, but I find all religions most interesting especially when thinking about the known characters.
On the upper left, there is arch angel Samael, he's said to be the angel of war. Upper right there's Gabriel, the angel of Death, with everlasting depressive expression on his face and a huge unique scythe in his hands.
The middle angel is the Morning Star, most controversial "person" of them all, in my opinion at least. But he's what everyone wants and everyone needs and feeds from, the first and last, beginning and the end. And he's empty and heartless.
--
And finally there's this individual who falls alone amidst all of the pain and anguish of the chaotic world. What happens to her remains to be seen..

I hope you like it and of course crits & all kinds of feedback are most welcome!!

Hello,
Here's another "quick" personal painting of mine. Started it last Monday and now it's happily done. I found some interesting sketches from the depths of my harddrive, hehe, and wanted to do something about them.
--
The two are painted in PS and smoothed up in Painter, but mostly just in PS. The backgound is combination of couple of dark photos from my backyard, it served some good textures that fit the piece nicely.
--
These animals are for real, they are actually called red pandas, or lesser pandas. I'vehad a soft spot in my heart for them since I was veeery little so just couldn't help myself for doing a tribute for these wonderful creatures. They are also highly endangered species these days and needs a lot of help to survive.. back in the 60-70's, people took the wild pandas as pets because of their kind and non-aggressive nature. So the result is that wild pandas are nowhere to be found.. they only mate ONCE a year in just one day. Believe that?
--
As you can see, I have some passion for this piece.. .. hope you like it too!

Depending of perspective, Death can be very frightning and painful, like a cold breath above you in a time of hurt. When heart is burned out and body has grown too weak to go on, She can ease your thoughts, if you let her. But sometimes Death only comes for a quick visit. Maybe to give you a push, writing you a new name to begin again.
This scene takes place to a underground world called Nezca, which is ruled by the dark race of sentinis. They have enslaved a noble people of shawans. The battle between these races and their minions and survival affects also to the upper world of sunlight. Finally the cultures of new and old, magic and raw power and creatures of dark and light have to all face each other in a common battle for truth and justice.

Updated this pic today 26th of February. Corrected his swordhand and adjusted the lighting and refined some details.
--
Hell has always fascinated me, ever since I read the marvelous "Season of Mists" from Sandman by the Mastergenious Neil Gaiman. In my imagination it's a place of fear and lost, humility and pain, hope and hopelesness. And also it can be a place of extreme sacrifice and courage.. I've dreamed of making a huge fight scene in Hell with all kinds of detailed grotesque stuff, so let's concider this a preview for what's to come later.. maybe..!
--

Here's the actual story for this:
__

"He walked through thousands of mazes, climbed over heavy and high stonewalls and longest stairs of echoing sadness, only his evergrowing shadow behind him.

--
Every sound and step he took reminded of her laughter, just to increase the love he felt for her. It was the sound of spring, the warmth of sun and all that he knew as precious and dear in this world. Never he had a day of tears with her. The colours she showed him at the time when days seemed to have the cruelest shades of grey and covered in darkness were like discovering himself all over again.
--
But now she was gone. Just like a breath fades into thin air she was cast to Hell, for the crimes she did and kept unsaid.. safe and locked within her heart.
--

Strike me down, for I will cut through the fifty walls of concrete and stones of darkest pits and rooms of torment, fall down and bleed until there is no more blood to shead... I shall get you back.
--
As she was found, all that lively spirit she once were now were like a dry oasis in a hot desert... almost as dead and fragile as a leaf.. her skin was grey and withered as burnt paper, torn and ripped apart for countless of times. She bit her own lip as she tried to speak with her demonish sharp teeth.

--
But he did not care for her appearance, for he would get her back. In her eyes he could still see the spring and the sleeping sun.

--

Ok, Hope you'll enjoy this work, had so much fun in creating all those details. Oh, and all done in CS2 from scratch. Used only one photo (from Mi-3) reference for the pose of the two, but then put it away as soon as that was sketched out.

Here's some close-ups. I think they are needed to show exactly how many things happen in Hell at the same time....

--

--
His sword was blessed until it worn out.. I think it reminds a lot like Soul Calibur's sword, don't you think?

--
Demons love to make a mess and pick on each other and also they are very enthusiastic to make bets about fights. A Firecentaur missed his shot and now the other guy has his chance to strike back. Demons kill each other easily, but that's what demons do, lol.

--
The hot air burnt his eyes and his mouth got so dry that it was hard to swallow. She felt the beating heart against her chest and didn't believe to be worthy enough to be saved, already he r body had gained the form of a demon and was forgetting her former self.

__

There are countless ways to punish the souls who come to hell in their afterlife.. This man was the captain of his ship and misused his authority in terrible ways and let his fellow men suffer while he lived his life with riches and abundance. Now he has to jump 13 times in a day from the peek of mountain and serve his crew.

--
That's a lantern-scorpion. One of the very few light bearers and small bugs of Hell.. Mostly only light comes from the hot lava currents flowing throughout the place. These critters prey using their light to lure those who are attracted to shiny targets.

--
And there are also wraiths and undead warlocks flying around in the air.

--
These statues are a symbol for resentment the Ruler of Hell feels. The dark angels pour more lava into the endless pits and only observe how it burns those who get wet by it.

--
Ok that's it. Thank you for viewing and comments are so welcome!!

Cheers again.. here's my latest installment.. took a few days but I'm glad I "suffered" that much with it.

I could write a book about how this was made, and another book about the story! Hehe.. ok, let me just say that the bg is a place I visited last years October and took loads of great photos there (if somebody knows it, I give him/her a big hand and an ice-cream with strawberries).
--
Then I now combined and modified the pics heavily, re-coloured and someways painted some places over. Had so much fun doing that! All other things are painted only in CS2.
--
I started this work as an attempt to do a matte painting practise, buuut.. you know how it can easily go to another direction... And I'm a person who craves a story in every picture I produce so just couldn't settle with only a landscape scenery.
--
Alright about the story... (It's from my unfinished book called 'Ordera')
--
A young emperor is fatally wounded by his own people while stopping them killing the boy who flies one of the feared 'equu dragni''s. He manages to escape with the hurt emperor, to desperately seek out the one person who can help to save him.

Dream country - speedpainting

About 3 hours, did it last night. You ever wonder how your subconcious constantly fights against your past demons as you dream? When you wake up, light fills the room and you're so glad that they are in the past and you know it's always just a dream. But sometimes the demons just keep climbing back up, ripping their long teeth and claws into you and your spirit and takes you over.
And no matter how hard you fight against them, they just won't die. They laugh until you give up on them. Frightning thought, isn't it?

I was looking for some weird and kind of twisted perspective on this, but not in a drastic way. The feeling of despair and strange atmoshpere like looking through some lens that's too odd to describe...
this took about 8 hours or so. Mostly time was consumed by that little flying thing who just couldn't accept the wing choices I tried to offer him. But now he's ok with them and flying happily.. hehe --
This image came out as a simple building and perspective practise, but then I thought it would also be a nice illo for my (if it ever finishes) book. So, this place is called "Sirad Nox", a vast and terrifying city with enormous walls surrounding it. It's risen from underground here and takes it's first glimpse of sunlight, only to diminish it in an instant to grey and cold in it's vast shadow.
Done in CS2.
Sorry for being away for far too long here at cgtalk. Too much to do and less time for these personal paintings. But I'm glad I got the few days off to make this girl that's been haunting in my head right after Din was made..
--
So, she's Nayru, Goddess of Wisdom and Din's sister and one of the great goddesses of Hyrule. It's been so much fun figuring out their personality and possible appearance.. as Nayru's very serene and quiet, but also what you can tell how she carries herself, there's a huge amount of confidence behind that calmness.
As the vines sunk deeper into his body, draining the precious drops of life out of him, he squeezed her hand once more, and sighed heavily, heart flapping weak as a dying bird. "Sweet child.. Remember me, as you tread on soft leaves and shady paths, take shelter under a tree, in the dance of a gentle breeze or a warm fire. I'm right there, holding your hand.

ooh.. I have a story allright. Please forgive my English if there are some stupid typos all around.

And the Lord said:

'And you must go to the Gates of Hell and tell them, that what ever punishment they have for you, is just and good. For you have unpure blood flowing in your veins. It went murky the day your brother turned his back on me and you didn't raise your hand against him as he walked away.
For you are weak amongst my sheep.

Go now, and be strong in your faith in me, then your torment
will be less painful."

He was thrown in the middle of Helllords, demons, banshees and warped creatures, who ripped his wings apart and sliced his ivory skin with their rusty bloodfilled blades and poisonous teeth.

Thousand years passed, as he crawled among the tormented souls as a slave and served as common amusenment by the Lords of Hell.

Then one day, they got bored with his fragile body, who couldn't stand much pain without screaming, so they tossed him to the Fire God, as a gift and trophee as one of God's favourite children.

As the fiery arms embraced him, his heart-aching scream echoed through the dimensional planes and freezed the air
as icy cold and then even Hell had a moment of stillness.
His heart shattered to a million pieces and the small flame of will dimmed away in his beautiful eyes. No more he believed, no more he loved, his body shook and gave up.

One heard the howling above the red clouds of this wretched land and decended riding with Black Wings to see the reason of such horrid voice. Tthe Storm Lord saw his brother in the fire. Tears began to flow on his cold cheaks as he pulled his sword and rushed to meet his fate..

Handling Chaos

I never ever realized the madness that classical painters had when they lost their appetite, sleep and social life when they did their works. Now I do!! This piece took such a long time to make, probably two months all and all.. and it's gone through like 1000 differents phases during that time. And this is all done from scratch in PS CS2.
--
Learned a few hundred new things as the painting process went on.. like how the skin actually doesn't have any green in in, it just looks like it has, but it doesn't. It's just different tones of brown and grey. It was a huge revelation, believe me!
Oh.. and the horse.. the horse is really a magnificent animal to make, learned to understand its muscles and nature more than even before. Also fell in love with those faint tones in the background, it's fun to get sunk into distant or small objects and then realize as 100% that the root or boot-strap is the size of a fly's poo.
--
Ok, maybe I should tell about the idea more than my silly blabbering about how hard it was to make this..
--
Chaos is the horse. Why? Because it's a symbol of freedom, servant, power, wildness, speed... And it's unpredictable, furious and gets scared easily, like the water's surface breaks and spreads as you touch it.
Peace rides on Chaos. He's blind and weak, tired for constant survival, he gets cuts everywhere he goes. But his wings help him escape from the places he can't survive. But now he's found himself tangled with Chaos, which he thought he could handle and master its will.
--
But Chaos cannot be controlled. It doesn't bow or bend for anyone.
--
The woman is War. Her heart is fierce and brave and she believes in control and victory. She believes she's doing the right thing by capturing Chaos and saving Peace.
Beneath them flows The Red River, filled with the blood of those who tried to control the things they can't. The stream is endless and eternal.
--
Hope you enjoy the piece as much I enjoyed finishing it!

Hi all!

The very first concept character to a magnificent "World of Chi", which environments and characters I have the honour to illustrate. Visit the link below to find out more
http://worldofchichronicles.com/woc-coming-soon.html

--
--Kahbi Buiku--
--
Her people have gray skin. Most are darker grey, but she is a lighter grey.
Her people grow tattoos on their body at around 12 years of age. Hers start
at three which is the sign of a great person. Most people also have them
all over her body, but she only has them on her arms.

--

She learns later, after her rescue by the eurfs**, that she can control her
tattoos, forming extremely sharp, unbreakable words from them. The tattoos
basically come from her arms and form swords in her hands.
She is of the race from across the Terrible Seas. She was a princess in her
lands before the hums came and starting enslaving her people. Her parents
were killed and she was taking and sold as a slave back in the lands of the
hums and min.

--

The min are against slavery and a group of min Rai were out on patrol one
day and say the way a group of traveling hums were beating their child
slaves (Kahbi and her brother, Kemnebi). The Rai leader could not stand it
so he intervened and the confrontation turned deadly for the hums.
The min Rai took her and her brother in and she was raised as though she was
the daughter of a powerful Rai lord. She is taught, and learns rather
quickly and skillfully, the swordsmanship of the Rai.
At the age of 15, she falls in love with the son of the Rai who took her in,
Kitai (17 years of age), and ends up killing her brother to protect her
love.
--
This destroys her and she runs away. She is captured, tortured, and raped
for days before being rescued by a eurf**. The eurfs teach her magic and
bestow a great staff made from a tree from the Forest of Angels, beset with
powerful gems.
This is my latest pic.. done in a couple of days, only thinking about nice things
I didn't plan this to be Shadowfax, but after it was done it just looked exactly like him as I've pictured it since I was a kid

I hope you like it!

I like the themes that are about opposites and I'm often drawn to add some love between good and evil, night and day etc.. Can't help it, hopeless nature of mine, haha.
This is done using Painter 8 and PS.

This work was made as a tutorial to a Finnish digital photo-magazine "Pikseli" (#7/2005)

It's about a mercenary that has pissed some people off and now she has to escape to uncharted territories, trusting only to a mysterious animal she's riding.
OR make up your own story, that's just the artist's opinion what's happened

The piece is made only using Photoshop 6.0, that was the main point in the tutorial.
